Amyris is a renewable products company devoted to creating a more sustainable world. TECHNOLOGY

We're entering a new age of science - one no longer dominated by chemistry, but by biology. Amyris is one of the companies driving this change, via the emerging science of synthetic biology.

Amyris technology makes it possible to alter the metabolic pathways of microorganisms such as yeasts, creating living factories that produce molecules with practical applications. While reading, writing, and analyzing the DNA of microbes once took years, Amyris can now reprogram microorganisms and test our ability to produce desired molecules in days to weeks.

Our proprietary technology transforms plant-based feedstocks, such as sugarcane, into 50,000 different isoprenoids - molecules used in a wide variety of energy, pharmaceutical, and chemical applications. Currently, we are creating a much-needed malaria ingredient, artemisinin , and renewable transportation fuels.

 

Advanced Renewable Fuel

 

Clean, Sustainable, and Economical
Amyris set out to create a perfect renewable fuel. That's why we formulate our fuels on the key components of petroleum fuels - hydrocarbons. Using our proprietary technology, we make Amyris fuels as efficient and eco-friendly as possible. Because they are hydrocarbon-based and compatible with existing engines, Amyris fuels bypass the challenges of current biofuels, such as ethanol and conventional biodiesel.

Amyris Renewable Diesel
The first Amyris fuel - a renewable diesel - is planned to be commercially available as early as 2010. Reducing CO2 emissions without compromising engine performance or price, Amyris diesel solves many of the performance challenges, such as cold flow and stability, associated with conventional biodiesels. Amyris renewable diesel works well even at low temperatures, does not clog filters, and can be stored for a long period of time without degradation. And because it's made from sugarcane, our fuel production can scale dramatically and be produced at low costs.

Amyris Renewable Jet Fuel
We plan to commercialize a renewable jet fuel as early as 2012. A sustainable alternative to petroleum and coal-derived jet fuel, Amyris jet fuel is unlike other renewable jet fuel alternatives. It performs well at low temperatures, can be produced in the US at competitive economics using sugar cane as a feedstock, and meets initial certification criteria.
