About the Environment
The people of Tyson Foods have always been fortunate to live and work in some of the most beautiful and scenic areas of our country. It is a privilege we acknowledge and appreciate. In the Core Values, we affirm our role as stewards of the environment, and the Tyson Foods’ Environmental Policy states the expectations of our Team Members.
To this end, Tyson always strives to use the latest technology in our facilities, while we work with others to develop and implement new environmental advances as they become available. Our efforts in continual improvement, natural farming techniques, water quality, and greenhouse gas emission reductions show Tyson’s commitment to environmental stewardship. We strive to produce the high-quality food products our consumers and customers depend upon, while recognizing our responsibility to be good corporate citizens in the communities in which we work, live, and play.
Our commitment to the environment also extends to encouraging the independent contract growers we work with to take care of the land they depend on for their livings. We recognize poultry, beef, and pork producers for outstanding stewardship of our environment each year at the annual shareholders' meeting.

Technology
We're moving from technology to production using a patented process based on time-honored Fischer-Tropsch (FT) technology, originally developed in the 1920s using coal to create fuels. The Syntroleum Processes convert fats, biomass, natural gas, coal, and other carbon bearing feedstocks into ultra-clean and environmentally friendly fuels.

Syntroleum's Fischer-Tropsch and Bio-Synfining™ technologies offer proven results and a solution to the world's declining oil and natural gas production as well as a clear advantage to other forms of alternative fuels. Engines using Syntroleum ultra-clean diesel offer significantly greater well-to-wheel carbon efficiencies than gasoline and natural gas engines, and comparable efficiencies to ultra-low sulfur diesel produced from petroleum.

As a neat fuel or for use in various fuel blends with conventional diesel, Syntroleum can power today's engines at dramatically reduced emission levels without sacrificing performance.

Another major advantage of Syntroleum's clean fuel and renewable fuel products is their compatibility with today's diesel engines, their blending characteristics with other liquids and their ability to be transported using existing infrastructures.
Environmental Benefits
The message is clear. Consumers, regulators, policy makers, environmentalists, the global automotive industry and progressive energy companies agree on one crucial point – protecting the environment must be a priority for all.

At Syntroleum, we are committed to producing ultra-clean synthetic fuels that provide a net benefit to the environment. Sulfur and other pollutants that are known to damage the Earth’s atmosphere and environment are virtually absent in the Syntroleum process.

Instead, the ultra-clean synthetic fuels that are produced by Syntroleum can be used in fuel cells and internal combustible engines for automobiles, buses and planes without creating damage to our environment. Studies have shown that Fischer-Tropsch (FT) diesel fuels with the attributes found in Syntroleum diesel fuel reduce emissions and help optimize diesel-engine performance. Syntroleum diesel is free of contaminants, including sulfur, aromatics and heavy metals and demonstrates high operating efficiency.

According to the Energy Information Administration (‘EIA”), market demand for ultra-clean fuels is increasing due to more stringent environmental standards in most of the world’s industrialized nations. At Syntroleum, we are answering that call by providing a cost-effective, environmentally-friendly solution so that today’s vehicle manufactures can respond to the challenge of producing fuel-efficient engines with clean-burning Syntroleum  fuel.

Projects--Bio-Synfining™
Capitalizing on its extensive synthetic fuels production experience, Syntroleum proudly announces next generation synthetic biofuels made possible by the company’s proprietary Bio-Synfining™ process. Proven and successful testing of over 400,000 gallons of Syntroleum synthetic diesel and jet fuel, along with expanding interest in renewable fuels worldwide has opened the door for Syntroleum to utilize its Synfining® product upgrading technology in a new way. Able to use a wide variety of renewable feedstocks such as vegetable oils, fats, and greases, Syntroleum’s Bio-Synfining™ process is truly a "flexible feed, flexible synthetic fuel" technology.

The first commercial application for Bio-Synfining™ is Syntroleum’s recent announcement of Dynamic Fuels, a 50/50 venture formed with Tyson Foods, the world’s largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef, and pork. Utilizing fats and oils feedstock from Tyson, coupled with Syntroleum’s Bio-Synfining™ technology, Dynamic Fuels’ first plant will be designed to produce 75,000,000 gallons per year of ultra-clean and high performing renewable synthetic fuels, starting in 2010. Additional plants are already in the planning stages. Each plant will create jobs while its output will contribute to our nation’s energy supply and security of that supply. The production of synthetic fuels that are low in emissions, environmentally friendly, and derived from renewable feedstock is our focus.

Longer-term, Syntroleum plans to employ its proven Fischer-Tropsch capabilities to produce ultra-clean renewable synthetic fuels from our nation’s extensive supply of biomass.
