Technology: Fischer-Tropsch Process
About Us
Velocys, Inc. is commercializing processing systems that provide energy and chemical companies with substantial capital cost savings, improved product yields, and greater energy efficiencies. Our technology enables:
- Large scale economics at smaller scale » Lower capital and
operating costs - Higher performance » High throughput per unit volume
- Precise control of process conditions » Greater product yield
- Improved energy efficiency » Reduced carbon footprint
- Compact systems » Modular plant expansions and offshore processing
Technology
Velocys chemical processors are characterized by parallel arrays of microchannels, with typical dimensions in the 0.01 to 0.20 inch range. Processes are intensified by decreasing transfer resistance between process fluids and channel walls. This structure allows use of more active catalysts than conventional systems, greatly increasing the throughput per unit volume. Overall system volumes can be reduced by ten to one hundred fold compared to conventional hardware.
Salient Benefits
Velocys' microchannel process technology has numerous benefits, including:
- Increased product yield and energy efficiency by improving heat and mass transfer performance
- Reduced capital costs by shrinking processing equipment
- Enhanced catalyst productivity by operating in peak performance windows
- Cost-effective plant debottlenecking and expansion by adding incremental capacity with the favorable economics of mega-scale plants
- Substantial reduction of carbon footprint and pollutant emissions by increasing process efficiency and utilizing catalytic combustion
- Creating new products by enabling processing conditions not possible with conventional hardware
